Furthermore, the actual pattern of results, with the experimental group starting from a lower value than the control group, makes it unlikely that there is a threat to internal validity due to selection x maturation, that is, that the experimental group improves because it starts with a higher score rather than because of the effect of the treatment, in all cases except for the total EQ-i emotional intelligence score, where the difference in the pretest between the experimental and control groups is marginally significant in favor of the experimental group.
