Criteria for infection control were: (a) a decreasing trend over two consecutive measurements (≥30% reduction from peak or from previous week), and (b) CRP <10 mg/L (normal reference: <5 mg/L; we used <10 mg/L as acceptable for diabetic patients with chronic inflammation) and WBC <10 × 109/L.
