Although limited to only three sites, it might be significant that this rock art with boat imagery is found at two sites along the river Sokno (Kattaberget or Bø 56 and Haneberg 46), the mouth of which provides an excellent safe haven for boats, and at Egersund where they are carved onto a rock face facing away from the prevailing winds but within 300 m of the sea [ 104 ].
