Importantly, while aging studies have consistently demonstrated that older adults have decreased network segregation compared to younger adults ( Cassady et al., 2019 ; Chan et al., 2014 ; Damoiseaux, 2017 ; King et al., 2018 ), we observed that sensorimotor, anterior cingulate, and default mode network segregation was not significantly different between younger adults and older adults with high physical function (and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex with borderline significance between younger adults and older adults with higher physical function: p = 0.049, Table 2 ).
