Quantitative analysis demonstrated a highly significant negative correlation between rotational and translational errors in NPC (Pitch vs. ΔVrt, r = −0.893), which lends robust support to the “lever-arm effect” hypothesis proposed by Gutfeld et al. 25 Consistent with the findings of Graff P et al in head and neck radiotherapy, 26 the data suggests that rigid-body registration algorithms may misinterpret rotations as translational shifts when the anatomical center of rotation deviates from the treatment isocenter.
