Statistical testing demonstrated highly significant differences among BODY MASS INDEX categories (χ2 = 10.50, p = 0.0148), uncovering the unexpected result that normal-weight individuals with HIV are at a considerably greater risk of sarcopenia than their overweight peers, possibly illustrating the “obesity paradox,” wherein excess adiposity may confer metabolic advantages (Supplementary Fig. 15 ).
