In a mutually adjusted model to determine the independent effects of cardiometabolic markers that included one marker per cardiometabolic domain (SBP, BMI, HDL-C, and fasting glucose) and model 2 covariates, none of the cardiometabolic domains were independently associated with APO, although SBP had a trend towards significance (1.37, 95 % CI 1.00, 1.87, p = 0.052). 3.3 Metabolic syndrome at baseline visit and odds of APO in between visits Among metabolic syndrome components assessed as categorical variables at baseline visit, only elevated blood pressure (>130/85 mmHg or anti-hypertensive treatment) and waist circumference ≥88 cm were significantly associated with higher odds of APO (aOR 3.56, 95 % CI 1.04–12.16, p = 0.043, and aOR 2.09, 95 % CI 1.08–4.07, p = 0.029, respectively) in multivariable adjusted model 2 ( Table 4 ).
