Depressive symptoms were considered as an indication for SSRI prescription alongside depression diagnoses, as it has been previously shown that there is an increasing trend in recent years of recording symptoms rather than diagnoses of depression in young people (< 18 years of age) in primary care records in Wales [ 23 ].
