A notable trend emerged from these comparisons: Despite the thicker cell wall that is typically associated with greater permeability resistance in gram‐positive bacteria, compared to gram‐negative counterparts, lignin‐derived polyphenols consistently exhibited higher antimicrobial efficacy against gram‐positive S. aureus than against gram‐negative E. coli [ 26 , 58 ].
