Serum sialic acid binding immunoglobulin-like lectin-1 (sSIGLEC-1) in Egyptian patients with lupus nephritis: correlation with renal activity in non-European ancestry.

The weak negative direction of the correlation ( r = -0.175) in our study suggests a possible trend toward lower sSIGLEC-1 in patients with higher proteinuria, which could reflect treatment effects (patients with heavy proteinuria are more aggressively immunosuppressed, potentially lowering sSIGLEC-1) or disease chronicity (burned-out LN with persistent proteinuria but quiescent inflammation).
