Previously, researchers investigated the serum concentrations of copper in patients suffering from traumatic SCI and found that patients showed a decreasing trend of copper which recovered effectively after SCI within the first 24 hours whereas the levels of copper increased in the non-remission group, leading researchers to speculate that effective copper depletion may be beneficial for the recovery from nerve injury (Seelig et al., 2020).
