Locomotor function during nigrostriatal lesion progression Prior to random assignment into NE or EX groups, reduced forelimb use was confirmed in 6-OHDA lesioned rats on day 7 (1 wk) post-lesion (F (1,29) = 64.6, p < 0.0001), with highly significant difference between sham and lesion groups (Sham, 105.7 ± 2.6%; 6-OHDA, 46 ± 4.3%) (F (1,31) = 97.8, p < 0.0001), but not between rats assigned to NE or EX groups prior to initiating exercise (F (1,31) = 0.13, p = 0.72) ( Fig. 3A ).
