3 Recent meta-analyses have reported a worldwide pediatric prevalence ranging from 6% to 20% and an increasing trend over recent decades; this has led to the urgent need to identify safe, effective, and accessible primary prevention strategies that could alter this allergic trajectory. 4 , 5 The “hygiene hypothesis” and the concept of a gut–skin axis provide a compelling biological rationale for microbial interventions in early life. 6 , 7 The gut microbiota perform important functions in the intestine and play a key role in immune regulation and homeostatic maintenance in distant tissues.
