There was an apparent trend for amino acids and related compounds (kynurenine, tryptophan, threonine) where the response was highest in 100% MeOH, indicating that methanol is the best for extraction of such compounds or can provide the greatest ionisation efficiency ( Fig. 2 and Table S1 † ).
