For heavier type 2 diabetics (BMI > 75 th percentile) there was a highly significant predictive power of the two genotypes for BMI (p = 0.008), with the presence of the T1431 allele being associated with an increased BMI (β = 2.9 kg/m 2 , p = 0.002) and the Ala12 allele showing a trend to reduced BMI (β = -1.7 kg/m 2 , p = 0.072).
