A very complex mixture of halo- genated and nonhalogenated aromatic hydrocarbons was found in association with the aerosol that escaped the flame in the same manner that transient puffs escape the oxidation zone of an incinerator. Although the total amounts of these emis- sions may be small in practice, the present analysis has revealed that their potential toxicity may be significant.
