This qualitative distinction will be used to examine any findings which suggest a purely chlorine or chlorine in conjunction with a particular source of water. In order to evaluate the effect of chlorination on the distribution of cases and controls in the light of other variables which might be significant effect- modifiers, a multidimensional contingency table analysis was performed which was based on the log-linear model and utilized maximum likelihood estimations of all main effects and interactions.
