A highly significant difference (p≤0.0005) in sialoadhesin mRNA levels was seen in AIDS patients (both AIDS-KS and non-AIDS-KS, median copy numbers per group ranged from 4.83×10 3 –2.35×10 4 /10 4 PBMC), and in HIV-1 infected a-symptomatic patients (median = 2.49×10 3 copies/10 4 PBMC) when compared with non-infected risk-group patients (median = 2.69×10 2 copies/10 4 PBMC) or with patients with exclusively an HHV-8 infection (median = 4.28×10 2 copies/10 4 PBMC).
