The thresholds they propose are: “suggestive linkage,” where statistical evidence would be expected to occur one time at random in a genome scan; “significant linkage,” 0.05 times; “highly significant linkage,” 0.001 times; and “confirmed linkage,” where significant linkage from an initial scan has been confirmed with a nominal p value of ≤0.01 in a second independent study.
