Alu sequences have also been reported as having an increased fraction of SNPs [ 57 ], both in the GC-rich body, but also in the GC-poor tail of the Alu sequences, possibly related to increased recombination rates, thus underlining the possibility that AT replication slippage may be significant in the generation of SNPs in the AT-rich tail of the Alu sequence, as suggested previously [ 57 ].
