The disease was statistically significantly associated with other chronic DM complications such as: i) peripheral neuropathy (p = 0.001), however, the association was only marginally statistically significant when adjusted for sex and duration of disease (logistic regression adjusted OR 1.70 95% CI 0.90–3.21); ii) coronary artery disease (p = 0.002), but again was only marginally statistically significant when adjusted for sex and duration of disease (adjusted OR 1.96 95% CI 0.91–4.22); and, iii) peripheral vascular disease (p = 0.009), however, this effect disappeared when adjusted for sex and duration of disease (Table 5 ).
