In these cases epithelialization of the vascular umbilical cord had taken place to produce a rather robust-looking pedicle of attachment (see Fig. 4) so that the possibility existed that lymphatic connections had been reestab- lished between the isolated skin flap and the host. It need hardly be stressed that the survival times of all the homografts in the present series represent highly significant prolongations of the life expectancy of similar grafts transplanted to sites prepared in intact skin--by a factor of more than two.
