These are not straightforward additions as there may be significant interactions between risk factors and, although breast density is an independent risk factor for BRCA1 and BRCA2 cancer risk [ 25 ], the density itself may be heritable and may not increase risk in a similar way in the context of family history of breast cancer alone.
