Three randomised clinical trials comparing adjuvant pelvic RT with brachytherapy ( Aalders et al , 1980 ) or observation ( Creutzberg et al , 2000 ; Keys et al , 2004 ) all showed a highly significant reduction of the risk of loco regional relapse with pelvic irradiation but no clear trend toward prevention of distant metastases or improvement of overall survival ( Creutzberg, 2004 ).
