A detailed evaluation of the international prognostic scoring system (IPSS; Greenberg et al, 1997) was available in 29 out of 82 evaluated MDS patients, and in this subset MVD did not correlate significantly with age, gender, presence of chromosome abnormality and PLT count, whereas a weak trend indicated a higher MVD in patients with higher blast frequency, white blood cell (WBC) count and lower haemaglobin (Hb) levels (r = 0.20, 0.28 and 0.29 respectively).
