Such a capability is highly significant because the skin is an important repository of 7DHC (making it readily available to cutaneous P450scc), and because its exposure to solar radiation can cause the unsaturated B ring of 7-DHP and its hydroxyderivatives to break generating novel vitamin D-like compounds without the side chain [45] , [46] , in a process similar to production of vitamin D3 [21] .
