Indeed, in severe asthma, a highly significant correlation was found between the total number of vessels and the vessels expressing ICAM-1 in biopsy specimens ( Vrugt et al 2000 ), which supports the hypothesis that ICS therapies are not effective in reducing ICAM-1 expression on the endothelium.
