Crenarchaeota of the order Thermoproteales and the only sequenced genome of Korarchaeum [ 114 ] encode functionally uncharacterized actin homologs that are significantly more similar to eukaryotic actins than to bacterial or euryarchaeal MreB-like proteins (for instance, the actin-like protein of Candidatus Korarchaeum cryptophilum showed a highly significant similarity, with e-values below 10 -8 , to a variety of eukaryotic actins, whereas the similarity to bacterial homologs was not statistically significant).
