Although these associations are highly significant when comparing very large population groups and are valuable in providing an indication of cellular processes and pathways involved in CD pathogenesis, the effect sizes at any individual locus are weak (the majority incurring odds ratios <1.6), and polymorphisms are common in healthy control (HC) subjects.
