Initial experiments using a p65–NF-κB DNA-binding ELISA-based assay showed that incubation of CRLPs (containing triacylglycerol enriched in n-6 PUFA from corn oil) with THP-1 macrophages for 6 or 24 h resulted in a highly significant reduction in NF-κB activation compared with that found in control cells incubated in the absence of CRLPs (% control value, n = 3: 6 h, 40.2 ± 8.3, P < 0.001; 24 h, 29.3 ± 7.3, P < 0.001) ( Fig. 1 ).
