Interestingly, and in contrast to some previous studies [ 4 , 5 , 20 ], the variable describing the fulfilment of expectations for pain (expectations- actuality discrepancy) did not achieve significance in the multivariable model, even though it had shown a significant correlation with both global outcome and satisfaction in the bivariate analyses ( r = 0.3 to 0.5, P < 0.05).
