Information available in our country is limited, with regard to acute poisoning in adults, including hospitalized patients.[ 3 – 7 ] In general, accidental poisoning is more common in children, whereas suicidal poisoning is more common in young adults.[ 3 ] A study from Vellore has shown an increasing trend of self-poisoning, especially among young adults.[ 7 ] It is important to know the nature and severity of poisoning in order to take appropriate preventive measures.
