Studies carried out in different populations demonstrate a decreasing trend in serum levels of α-tocopherol with more advanced cervical lesions.[ 15 16 ] The protective effect of α-tocopherol may be mediated through its effect on HPV, a virus strongly implicated in the etiology of cervical cancer.[ 17 18 ] This study showed significant differences between cases and controls for various important sociodemographic, sexual, and reproductive factors.
