In an overview by the BPLTTC, there was a greater effect of calcium channel blocker-based regimens on stroke compared with regimens based on diuretics or β-blockers, but the result was of borderline significance. 52 There was also a trend towards greater reductions in stroke risk with regimens based on calcium channel blockers and diuretics or β-blockers than with regimens based on ACE inhibitors.
