Using data from two studies with samples identical in respect of age (15 years), school year and geographical location, we showed marked increases in self-report ‘psychological distress’ (GHQ-12 ‘caseness’), among females between 1987 and 2006 and smaller, but still highly significant increases among males ( Sweeting, Young, & West, 2009 ).
