In African Americans, there was now a trend toward higher risk of diabetes in prehypertension group (1.18 [0.80–1.73]) and a marginally statistically significant association in hypertension group (1.44 [1.01–2.05]), which was no longer significant after additionally adjusting for fasting insulin and waist circumference ( P value 0.062).
