Mice receiving NBD peptide but not mutant peptide prior to MPTP injection also showed highly significant protection of the nigrostriatum from MPTP-induced neurodegeneration of the TH+ neurons and the loss of dopamine production, as well as improvement in their locomotor function compared with MPTP-injected mice given mutant peptide.
