Moreover, cis -nonPro peptide bonds are actually found to occur more frequently than previously thought and are often located at or near functionally important regions of the proteins, such as active sites [ 2 ] and dimerization interfaces [ 3 ]; these facts triggered further studies in order to unravel the molecular mechanism of these rare but highly significant configurations of the peptide bonds (Figure 1 ).
