Comparison of postmenopausal women with and without a fracture showed no difference in areal BMD of the lumbar spine or hip and only a small difference at the distal radius between both groups, whereas there were substantial and highly significant differences in volumetric BMD, microarchitecture, and bone mechanical properties assessed by high-resolution peripheral QCT (HR-pQCT) [ 14 ].
