There is an increasing trend to expand the studies on the chemical diversity of natural products from bioassay-based screening to genetic diversity studies, from the studies of natural diversity to creation and utilization of recombinant diversity (e.g., to use genetic tools to produce new “unnatural” natural products), and in the meantime, it is well accepted that the chemical diversity and genetic diversity not only exist in different microbial species, but also exist in the different strains in one species [ 36 ].
