The lowly-constrained genes had on average, a low degree whereas the highly-constrained genes were more highly connected to other genes in the network; this shift from a random distribution was marginally statistically significant for the control group (Chi-squared test; P-value = 0.05958 for control group, P-value = 0.1219 for SZ group, P-value = 0.09595 for PD group, see Figs. 19 and 20 in Text S1 ), suggesting that not only are constraints imposed on genes linked to specific functional roles but they also have significantly distinct network topologies.
