With respect to a possible molecular basis for the exaggerated CNS responses to systemic inflammation we have shown here that a number of key receptors for local responses to LPS and inflammatory cytokines are elevated in the ME7 hippocampus (TLR4, IL-1RI, TNFR p55, IFNAR2), and this may be significant in the priming of this region to inflammatory insults.
