Given that (1) preparation processes are conceptually linked to criterion adjustment during the CTI, whereas drift rate effects are linked to post-target decision processes and (2) criterion mixing cost was strongly correlated with mixing cost on both RT and drift rate ( r = 0.744, p < 0.001, r = −0.587, p < 0.001, respectively) with effects remaining highly significant when controlling for age ( p < 0.001), we reasoned that criterion-related variability may mediate the relationship between mixing cost positivity and mixing costs in RT and in drift rate.
