showed that highly significant increase in the percentage of apoptotic peripheral blood mononuclear cells in active vitiligo patients versus stable vitiligo patients or controls.[ 1 ] Oxidant stress may also play an important pathogenic role in vitiligo.[ 10 ] It is suggested that the imbalance in the oxidant-antioxidant system rather than oxidative stress might play such role in vitiligo.[ 1 ] Research at the molecular level has also demonstrated deficiency of antioxidant substances in vitiliginous skin.
