Until March 2009, in model 2, depressive symptoms were significantly associated with suicide in women (HR = 2.36, 95% CI 1.31–4.24), but the HR in men (HR = 2.03, 95% CI 0.96–4.29) became marginally non-significant, which was probably due to the small number of deaths (58 suicides in men versus 73 in women).
