Overall, there was a borderline significant positive association between subclinical hypothyroidism and high nitrate exposure (age- and BMI-adjusted OR = 1.32; 95% CI: 1.0-1.68), with further analyses revealing the association to be present in women (OR = 1.60; 95% CI: 1.11-2.32), but not in men (OR = 0.98; 95% CI: 0.63-1.52).
