In the last annual epidemiological report of the European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC), in fact, 6049 confirmed cases of malaria were reported in 2009 by 26 EU (European Union countries) and one EEA(European Economic Area)/EFTA(European Free Trade Association) countries in continental Europe, showing an increasing trend in the total number of malaria cases compared to 2008 (5912 confirmed cases).
