The BOLD responses in areas V2 and V3 exhibited a similar degree of variance reduction (although the corresponding SNR increase failed to reach significance) when adjusting for spontaneous effects (approximated by their respective, individually computed VOI proxy 's for V2 and V3), although the overall response was slightly lower than in the primary visual cortex (Supplementary Fig. 4 ).
