Similarly, in a 1 H MRS study of the left basal ganglia, a highly significant increase in the signal from choline-containing compounds was seen in CFS patients compared to age- and sex-matched healthy controls.[ 32 ] In three children with CFS, 1 H MRS demonstrated a significantly higher choline to creatine ratio in the frontal cortex compared to healthy controls.[ 33 ] N-acetylaspartate is considered to be a marker of neuronal density and neuronal function.
