11 A second trial involving patients with metastatic disease found a nonsignificant trend toward cumulative increases in osteonecrosis of the jaw (1% in year 1 and 2% in year 2). 12 The majority of patients who developed osteonecrosis of the jaw (79%) had poor oral hygiene, dental appliances, and/or a recent history of tooth extraction.
